Arunachal Pradesh is all set to showcase the films of the region at Film Northeast 2016. The fest will start on 17 February and will continue till February 20. Hosted by Department of IPR, with Film Federation of Arunachal (FFA), it aims to promote cinema of all the eight states of the Northeast. Some celebrated filmmakers who will be part of the festival are Jahnu Barua, Meghna Gulzar, Kaiku, Soma Laishram, Aribam Syam Sharma and Jennifer Wahid.
There are different categories in which films have been nominated. There is Chiaroscuro category, where one feature film from each state would be nominated by IPR/Art and Culture department. There is the First Cut category where debut films of directors from the region will be nominated by the IPR/Art and Culture department.
In the Open Competition, there are two sections. One is ‘Clapperboard’ for budding filmmakers to send in entries less than 5 minutes and ‘Our Stories’ where interested filmmakers can send documentary films on contemporary issues (20-30 minutes). Best film (short), best documentary and best debut feature will be awarded cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs and trophies. Around 50 filmmakers from all over the region are taking part in the festival.
