The book is an adaptation of the national award winning Khasi film of the same name. At the heart of this tale which revolves around insurgency and terrorism, lie two characters – Manbha, a terrorist and Police Superintendant Kyndiah. Manbha is deeply disappointed by the cold attitude meted out by the Indian Government to Meghalaya and so he joins a terrorist outfit in the hopes of freeing Meghalaya from mainland India. On the other hand, SP Kyndiah’s determination to end terrorism in his State as well as his commitment towards his colleagues and profession is noteworthy. Following an encounter with the police in which Manbha loses most of his teammates due to a mole in the ranks, he is forced to hide in the home of a women journalist called Emika. Emika is sure to win hearts with her courage in expertly handling the situation of harbouring a wanted criminal in her home. She also makes him realize the essence of humanity and how violence begets violence. The story is short and straight to the point with a no-nonsense attitude. It deals with a serious concept well, and the moral ‘terror never brings peace’ comes across loud and clear.
