Nabam Rungkhi, the former Pradesh Councillor of NEFA, also known as the person behind establishing the State capital has been honoured by the State government. Chief Minister Kalikho Pul handed over a new vehicle to Rungkhi in recognition of his selfless contribution towards making Itanagar the State capital.
‘Arunachal government has decided to gift a bungalow to him and his family in the State capital in honour of his service to the State and provide a government scheme specifically in his name to his family,’ announced Pul.
‘I salute him for the contribution made by him in making Itanagar the capital of the State,’ said CM, adding, ‘It was Nabam Rungkhi, who convinced the then Governor of Assam, B K Nehru to make Itanagar as the capital of the State.’
Pul also shared that Rungkhi carried bricks which were collected from the Itafort in his Narah (local bag) all the way from Itanagar to Shillong to prove that Itanagar is an important historical place and worthy to be made the State capital.
