With the 2019 General Elections approaching, the Indian National Congress has planned to reach out to the people of the country with a platform ‘Your Voice’ wherein senior leaders of the party shall interact with the common people for suggestions and then inculcate them in the election manifesto of the Congress party for 2019.
Former Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram who is in Guwahati, today attended one of such consultation programs to listen to the issues of the common people. With a gathering of about 100 people from various backgrounds, suggestions were made in the open consultation program. He said, ‘I am overwhelmed to see the response and thank you all for coming to this open house consultation. We have formed various committees and sub-committees and I am focusing mostly on GST and economic policies in the manifesto’
He further stated, ‘Manifesto can be written inside a room, but Congress president Rahul Gandhi has decided to include your voices in the manifesto and what we will discuss will find a place in our manifesto.’
Suggestions were made on the Northeast industrial policy, issues on coal mining, reviving Hindustan Paper Limited, eco-friendly site for industry, agricultural auction centre for NE, a tourism package as a whole for the whole of Northeast, FDI in technology rather than in FMGC products, MSME banks for small businessmen, upgraded water transportation in Brahmaputra river and so on.
Also, requests were made for proper R&D unit in the Northeast, creating a respectful environment for businessmen in the region was also suggested by the people. Representatives from the railways asked for a separate railway budget which has been merged with the general budget after the induction of the NDA government.
