BJP is slowly gaining in strength in Manipur. Recently two leaders from Congress and one from Trinamool Congress (TMC) joined the saffron party. Former minister Radhakishore (Oinam) and Manipur PCC secretary Sapam Ranjan Singh (Konthoujam) from Congress, and H Dinko, who contested as a Trinamool candidate from Sekmai in the last assembly polls, joined BJP.
BJP Manipur unit president Ksh Bhabhananda Singh hailed the new entrants, saying this has strengthened the party. Accusing Congress of total failure in its ways, Bhabhananda compared Congress to ‘expired medicines’. BJP-ruled states, on the other hand, are thriving under good governance, he said.
Politics of defection
With the assembly polls approaching, major shifts have begun to take place. Recently, Congress leader Yumkham Erabot joined BJP. A few days ago, four TMC MLAs – Th Shyamkumar (Andro), I Ibohalbi Singh (Oinam), O Lukoi (Wangoi) and K Sharat Singh (Konthoujam) – joined Congress.
