The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has banned plying of city buses which are 15 years old and more, along with the trekkers which are 10 year old.
The ban came into force from Thursday midnight. A meeting on the issue was held between the RTA and the City Bus And Trekker Owner’s Association in the month of October itself.
At the meeting, which was attended by senior officials from the District Administration, Transport Department, Police, Traffic Department and PWD (Roads), it was decided that the Supreme Court guidelines with regards to the plying of old vehicles would be enforced.
In the meeting, it was decided that city bus routes would be increased in Guwahati and initiative will be taken to operate city buses to places like Jagiroad, Baihata Chariali, Mirza and Chandrapur, in consultation with association of bus owners.
