Thought of a night
Spent the night awakening
To hear the footstep of him,
Dip dip, dap dap,
Oh! What is it?
Some breezes of autumn, knocking the windows?
Throbbing, that a fl ow from my heart is?
Sudden sound of a scream
Made me nervous, made me sick.
I scrambled up and stood
Supporting myself with my shoulders, against the wall.
As if a snake had bitten my heart
As if a snake had sucked my blood.
Oh! No, it was the sound of a song of thrush
Who knows? Someone’s screaming of tremendous joyous?
Anything it could be but the thought, I was aware.
I was sitting on the hearth to see the asses of the fi re
Turn grey and cold.
Look, I thought-“I cannot forgive him
For not being sensible in every word”-
Thoughts were advancing step by step towards some conclusion
So gradually, that I supposed myself to remain without motion.
By breaching the silence sudden sound came “Knock, knock, knock”
At the door, made me cock
The thrill that made me avert, I buried the glee
Only whispered- “Who is there?”
