City Hut Dhaba is a family restaurant located behind Earle Holiday Home on Oakland Road, Shillong. They have four eating rooms, including a room specifically for families. The ambiance is quite homely, dried corns and garlic has been used as ornaments at the entrance to the restaurant. Also at the entrance, one can spot a small waterfall and a man-made well. Although they specialize in tandoori items, the restaurant also serves Continental, Oriental and Indian cuisine making it the perfect place for a group with different tastes to enjoy a meal together.
For starters, we ordered Crispy Fried Potato Chilly which was quite yummy. It was especially delectable because of the white sesame seeds sprinkled on top of the potato. For the main course, we decided to opt for Vegetable Biryani, Mutton Mughlai Biryani and Kadai Chicken.
The meat in the Mutton Biryani was extremely tender and cooked to perfection, however, we felt there was a tad too much masala in the rice but that did not alter the wonderful taste of the overall dish. The Kadai Chicken was wonderful but it must be said that it was a little on the sweeter side. We felt that a nice dessert would be the perfect way to end the great meal and we chose Gulab Jamun which was a great choice as it was sweet, warm and super delicious.
So the next time you are looking for a place to enjoy a meal with your family, head down to City Hut Dhaba.
A three course meal (starters, main course and dessert) for two would cost approximately Rs 800 – 1000.
