George Bernard Shaw had once said that there is no love sincerer than the love of food. This may ring especially true for the residents of Guwahati where you cannot go five steps without coming across a restaurant or getting the waft of something baking, cooking or frying. So, as you can imagine, the competition is fierce, however, Morung seeks to prove that good service, delectable eats and excellent quality can provide it with just the edge it needs.
The restaurant offers an extensive menu with three sections; Naga, Indian and Chinese. Of course, if it’s your first time, we would suggest trying the Naga items.
We began our meal with a couple of starters, the first of which was the Pork and Chicken Kharika, a specialty of the restaurant. Simple yet flavorful bite-sized chunks of meat, moderately priced, this is truly the perfect start to any meal. We then ordered a plate of Smoked Chilli Pork which again we were informed was an exclusive dish that you can only find in Morung. The pork is smoked for five days after which it is boiled then fried with onions, capsicums and basic seasoning. All of us have tasted chilli pork at one point or another but this dish just took it a notch higher. And if you prefer chicken over pork, you can give the Roasted Chilli Chicken a try.
Moving on to the main course, we decided to opt for the Thali, which comprised of rice, Naga curry, pork/chicken, boiled vegetables along with a salad and chutney. The Thali was the perfect combo of quality and quantity, nothing more, nothing less. But the night was still young and Morung had saved the very best for last, the Pork Chunga, this particular specialty dish is not a common sight in most menus around the city or elsewhere for that matter, which was why we were quite excited to try some. Apparently this was one of the bestselling items of the restaurant and after we took out first bite, we could understand exactly why this one was a clear winner. Cooked to perfection and packed with flavour, this one goes brilliantly with rice.
The best part about Morung is the pricing, very reasonable without compromising on the quality. Also, for the ones who prefer to eat at home, they provide home delivery services, just dial the number and enjoy good food at home.
