When Aamir Khan and family landed up in Assam for a quiet family holiday, they stayed at the 100-year-old stately Heritage Bungalow with its Victorian-era furniture at the Wild Mahseer resort near Tezpur. In all, there are five exclusive colonial bungalows spread over an area of 22 lush green acres. Each bungalow is very private and has its own staff. The best part of being a guest there is the fact that apart from guided tours to the surrounding tea gardens, one could also indulge in activities like fishing and river rafting in the swift flowing Jia Bhorelli River. Home to the famed game fish, the Golden Mahseer, the Jia Bhorelli had been a favourite angling haunt of the British and continues to be a destination for avid anglers. For wildlife enthusiasts, a visit to nearby Nameri National Park can be a very rewarding experience.
How to Get There – The Salonibari Airport in Tezpur is just 34 km away from the resort. Volvo Buses ply daily from Guwahati to Tezpur.
Room Tariff – The premium Heritage Bungalow would set you back by around Rs 20,200 per night (double occupancy). The other bungalows are more reasonably priced at around Rs 6, 800 per night (double occupancy). These rates are applicable from May – October only.
Things to Do – Angling and river rafting can be done on the Jia Bhorelli River, and one can also be chauffeured to the Brahmaputra River to gaze at dolphins. One can also indulge in tea-time elephant rides and visit the Addabarie Tea Estate, while scenic walks and bicycle rides take one across to nearby tribal (Mishing) villages.
Places to Shop/Eat – A trip to the very large Saturday market or haat is a must if you wish to shop for local handicrafts and organic fruits and vegetables. As for food, the Heritage Bungalow has its own kitchen and dining room. The food at times is cooked there and the guests have the privilege of dining in the privacy and comfort of this room. The property also has a dining room (The First Flush) where guests staying in the other bungalows can dine comfortably.
Make a Memory –You could try your hand at cooking authentic Assamese cuisine as cooking classes are regularly held.
