21 youths were arrested for allegedly misusing their Inner-Line Permits (ILP) in Aizwal. ‘Kumpuan Committee of YMA, Sub-headquarters and Serchhip Police have launched a mass surprise checking of Inner Line Permits (ILP) in Serchhip town where at least 21 non-tribal youths have been arrested for misusing their ILPs,’ said a police source, adding, ‘Whereas some were arrested for using invalid or expired ILPs.’
The source further informed that under section 3EBER Act 1873, cases were registered against them. Meanwhile, the leaders of YMA have blamed that many ILPs issued to non-tribals were past the expiry date; the native people of Mizoram who sponsored the holders did not pay adequate attention which ultimately led to gross violation or misuse of ILP.
The organisation further appealed to all concerned citizens to pay adequate attention to Inner Line Permits (ILP) being issued on their sponsorship and renew it on time.
