The beleaguered Nabam Tuki government is now saddled with another problem. And this time it is not him or his Cabinet colleagues, but the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly who is from the Congress.
Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Nabam Rebia has found himself in a soup after being booked for allegedly abusing physically and mentally his live-in partner for four years. An FIR was filed with the police after the Speaker failed to respond to the legal notice served by the victim’s counsel seeking ‘restitution of conjugal rights’ of his client within seven days.
Rebia has been accused by the woman of making false promises to marry her since 2011, as well as of cheating, breach of trust and fraud. Rebia represents Doimukh Assembly constituency. ‘Nabam Rebia had upheld conjugal relationship with (the woman) from 2011 to 2015 because of which she had to severe all other relations of hers. However, for a few months you (Rebia) have been avoiding her. Even after persistent reminding, you failed to support her and give her the status of a legally wedded wife,’ the legal notice issued to Rebia stated.
Tabing Lamgu, the woman’s counsel, told the media that since Rebia had failed to respond to the legal notice, an FIR was filed against the politician. He said now the case will be fought to get him punished. The counsel alleged that Rebia assaulted the woman on several occasions when he was only a legislator and later pressurised her to undergo an abortion. The woman also charged his family with damaging her reputation by engaging in a disinformation campaign.
