‘The existing head load system of distribution of food grains under the Public Distribution Scheme (PDS) will soon be replaced by cargo helicopters in Arunachal Pradesh,’ informed Principal Secretary (Finance) Satya Gopal during a video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners and District Food & Civil Supplies Officers.
While addressing the conference, Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi said, ‘Existing godowns located in the interior administrative headquarters where dropping of ration items by air will be carried out are either to be upgraded or new buildings have to be constructed.’ He also said that godowns should have sufficient space to stock six month’s food grains which is required for people living in that particular area. For this, deputy commissioners would be inspecting godowns in their respective districts.
‘In order to make this initiative successful, people have to be sensitized through local bodies such as Panchayati Raj, Municipal councils, Gaon Buras, or Self Help groups of Women,’ Negi further pointed out.
Secretary, Food & Civil Supplies Gamli Padu further informed that the decision has been taken to designate Arunachal Pradesh Commission for Women to function as State Food Commission in the initial phase.
