In yet another shameful incident involving a minor, CPI (M) Amarpur legislator of South Tripura district Manoranjan Acharjee has been axed from the party following a complaint filed against him for sexually assaulting a minor.
Informing about the incident, a party insider said, ‘Few days back, a mother of five and half year old girl had lodged a complaint before the party’s state unit secretary Bijan Dhar alleging that her minor daughter was sexually abused by MLA Manoranjan Acharjee. He further added that following the complaint, the party had initiated an internal investigation in which the legislator was found guilty.
‘Immediately, the party served him a show cause notice, however, his reply was not satisfactory,’ he further asserted, adding, ‘So, the party has taken the extreme decision of sacking him from his position. The victim’s mother had also informed the matter to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar when he went to Amarpur to campaign for the civic elections. The legislator is in the custody of Amarpur police.
It is to be mentioned here that around one year ago, CPI (M) also suspended another top leader of the party from Kumarghat area of North Tripura district on charges of sexual assault. Meanwhile, in last September, AIUDF Boko legislator Gopinath Das was apprehended on charges of sexual assault but till date, no action has been initiated against the MLA.
