All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi and several other congress leaders on Wednesday lodged a complaint with President Pranab Mukherjee against Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa accusing him of trying to destabilise the State Government. Sonia Gandhi said, ‘Obviously, this has been a pre-planned move approved by higher functionaries in the Central Government’.
Meanwhile, veteran congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, ‘It is a matter of regret that unconstitutional actions are being initiated by the Arunachal Pradesh Governor at the behest of the Central Government. Such incidents have never happened before’.
He further informed that the State Assembly was to convene on 14 January but the governor pre-poned it to 16 December without consulting Chief Minister Nabam Tuki. Azad said that the Governor had also sought the removal of the Speaker though he enjoyed the support of the majority in the Arunachal Assembly, adding, ‘Besides, the governor had requisitioned central forces to the State without the Chief Minister’s knowledge.’
The Congress Party alleges that since an attempt was made to destabilize an elected government in a sensitive border state, the President should take appropriate action.
