Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi have instructed Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia and newly appointed DGP Mukesh Sahay to deal firmly with Ulfa (Independent) and NSCN (K) for their alleged involvement in a shooting spree at a stone crusher plant at Namrup on Monday.
‘I have asked the Chief Secretary to formulate an effective action plan for further strengthening the law and order machinery in view of militancy threats,’ said Gogoi, adding, ‘The administration should gear up to counter the threats.’ The CM further said he would call on the Centre to take steps for an all-out operation against Ulfa (I) and NSCN (K) to bust their camps in Myanmar.
It is to be mentioned here that Gogoi had a telephonic talk with GoC 3 Corps on Tuesday to intensify the combing operation for nabbing the ultras. Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, Speaker Pranab Gogoi said ‘People of the State do not want violence. Further, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has urged the government to compensate the families of the victims’.
However, fearing that incidents like Namrup could take place in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and in neighbouring areas, the All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union’s (Akrsu) urged the Centre and the State government to tighten security in the BTC area.
