Nagaland Governor PB Acharya on Tuesday underscored the importance of national integration and stated that the integrity of the country is at stake in the Northeast. ‘With over 200 insurgent outfits and surrounded by four countries, the region has always remained a potential threat to the integrity of India,’ the Governor pointed out. He however also emphasized that the vast natural resources of the region can help India in becoming a great nation.
‘The Northeast has got enough resources including hydro power, petroleum, coal and other minerals to propel the region in all fields of development,’ he further asserted, adding, ‘But still the region is lagging behind only due to the attitude of the people who always look upon the respective governments for their every need and comfort.’
He further said ‘India is a rich country but Indians are poor, also India is a literate country but Indians are illiterate, thus such kinds of contradictions can only be removed when people change their mindset and learn how to take initiatives on their own and not depend on the government or external agencies.’
