‘We are in favour of a grand-alliance with the Congress and AGP, as we believe all secular forces should unite to defeat the BJP. We are yet to hold any direct talks with the Congress or the AGP in Assam. But, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and political strategist Prashant Kishor have been mediating for a possible grand alliance in Assam involving the Congress, AIUDF and the AGP.
This is an era of grand alliances where one party cannot make it alone, and the Congress must understand this. We need to be broad-minded as Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav are. The model of give-and-take in seat-sharing as shown by Nitish and Lalu in the recent Bihar polls should be an ideal model for us. When eyes are set on a bigger issue, smaller problems are overlooked. We are crystal clear that a grand alliance is a must so as to stall the BJP in Assam’.
