Post BJP’s mass protest in Guwahati alleging failure of the State government machinery, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday took a jibe at the saffron party stating that the BJP has staged a protest only to cover up their false assurances. While addressing the media, Gogoi said, ‘BJP has resorted to such steps fearing the rise of the Congress in the State.’
Further launching a scathing attack on his once close confidante and now BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gogoi alleged that Sarma had failed to furnish utilization certificates during his tenure as a minister.
Meanwhile, Guwahati Police Commissioner Mukesh Agrawal has disclosed that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s mass protest was staged without permission at a time when Section 144 was imposed in the city. The Police Commissioner further denied that the police had resorted to firing to control the irate BJP supporters and disclosed that the tear gas shells were confused with bullets. He added that a number of police personnel were also injured during the clash with supporters.
