Did you know the historic town of Sivasagar was formerly known as Rongpur? Capital of the ancient Ahom Kingdom, there is a story behind every monument in Sivasagar. With the passing years, the town has seen significant changes and development but it has managed to retain its old-world charm. Everyone has heard about the historic Talatal Ghar which is reverberating with the sound of music.
Rongpur Unnayan Utsav 2015 is underway in Talatal ghar from December 18. It is an elaborate cultural extravaganza to showcase the rich heritage of Northeast India. Day one of the event started with an inaugural ceremony followed by various other programmes.
Day two of the event has an impressive lineup, starting with a heritage walk from Dolmukh to Talatal Ghar. Up next is a cultural carnival which will display the impressive heritage of the entire Northeast and a sky lantern ceremony. Floating lanterns released in the sky will be a mesmerizing experience to remember. A fashion show followed by a musical night will round up the evening. With boating competition, photography workshop and a display of fireworks on the third day, this will be a night to remember that is sure to stay with you even after it ends.
Time: It takes about 7 hours (approx) to reach Sivasagar from Guwahati. You can also take a bus from Guwahati which will take 12/13 hours (approx) to reach there.
