Five students from Sikkim who are studying at the Institute of Technology and Future Trends (ITFT) at Mullanpur in Punjab suffered severe injuries after a group of students from Himachal Pradesh attacked them on Tuesday. ‘They have been identified as: Sangam Rai, Avinash Lama, Amir Hang, Shring and Sudeep; the students have been admitted to Government Multi Speciality Hospital in Mullanpur,’ said a police source.
The source further informed that during the investigation, it was learnt that a couple of months earlier, a fight had ensued between a Sikkimese and Himachali student inside a bus. Thereafter, a cold war was going on between the two sides and had been exchanging blows every now and then.
‘As the differences between the groups increased, the HP students on Tuesday thrashed the students from Sikkim at Khuda Alisher with batons and rods, besides damaging the bus they were travelling in,’ he further informed.
Meanwhile DSP (central) Satish Kumar informed that the police has arrested 10 students in this connection – Ajay Kumar, Sunny Thakur, Manu Thakur, Vishal, Anil, Rohit, Pardeep, Vijay, Sandeep and Gurjant.
Police officials also said that a few people had videographed the incident, and now they are trying to recover that as evidence. There were reports that some of the residents also tried to sell the video to the media for money.
