Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced the creation of 2 new districts and 24 sub-divisions, besides initiating plans to increase the number of revenue circles across the State. While addressing the gathering on the occasion of India’s 67th Republic Day, the Chief Minister said that the State government is all set to create two new districts — South Kamrup and East Kamrup — from existing Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts.
He further informed a total of 24 new civil sub- divisions– Sonapur, Guwahati, Dispur, Azara, Chandrapur, Bihpuriya-Narayanpur, Naharkatiya, Ramkrishna Nagar, Howraghat, Diyungbra, Dakhin Kamrup, Mukalmua, Kalgachia, Moran, Patharkandi, Katigorah, Merapani, Tihu, Sarukhetri, Manikpur, Katlichera, Lakhipur, Dhekiajuli and Sorbhog will be soon formed across the State.
‘We are also taking steps to increase the number of revenue circles and revenue lots and reorganisation of development blocks with at least two blocks per constituency,’ Gogoi stated. He also pointed out that the process of creating development councils for Karbi people residing outside Karbi Anglong, Hindi and Bengali speaking people, Garo Autonomous Council and Bodo Kachari Autonomous Council for the Bodo Kachari people living outside Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has been started.
Gogoi further disclosed, ‘The State government is also working towards giving due rights to differently-abled people; in this regard, a development council for them will also be created.’
