‘Common religious bhawans will be constructed in various parts of Assam to promote communal harmony. Each bhawan will provide space for different religions and will include a temple, church, and mosque for checking divisive forces and restraining intolerance in society. The bhawan construction project will be first rolled out in Guwahati and gradually in other areas. Assembly elections are round the corner; the State is besieged by several problems such as rising political attacks, extremism and communal discord.
‘Besides the construction of bhawans, we are also mulling to set-up wi-fi and internet connectivity hotspots in all colleges. Coaching centres at district headquarters are to assist students during competitive examinations. Also, wages of tea workers under the State owned Assam Tea corporation (ATC) gardens has been considered for enhancement to Rs 177 per day from February 1, 2016.
BJP after its defeat in Delhi and Bihar is taking Assam polls very seriously, but we believe there is no reason why we cannot come to power for the fourth term. Anti-incumbency factor may be against us but we have the support of the Assamese people; we can feel the pulse of the people.’
Tarun Gogoi is the present Chief Minister of Assam.
