Debojit Thaosen is all set to become the next Chief Executive Member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council for the third term. This development took place after the 10 BJP members, including the executive members of NC Hills Autonomous Council, who had earlier quit the Congress to join the saffron party, recently rejoined the Congress. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has already given the final nod to Thaosen’s name. He has the support of 17 executive members, in addition to the 10 executive members who joined back.
Meanwhile, the 10 erring leaders claim that the dictatorial attitude of current Chief Executive Member Niranjan Hojai led to their turning away from the BJP. However, Chief Executive Member of the North Cachar Hills (Dima Hasao) Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Niranjan Hojai, alleges that the Congress has resorted to horse-trading for destabilising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Autonomous Council in the hills district.
Thaosen is likely to meet Governor PB Acharya on Monday.
