Following the massive earthquake that left eight dead and over 100 injured in Manipur, the State government has sought financial assistance of Rs 500 crore from the Centre for rehabilitation of the victims as well as reconstruction of damaged properties. This was disclosed by State Chief Secretary O Nabakishore.
‘The State Government will be releasing about Rs 10 crore to extend relief assistance to the earthquake-affected people through the respective district administration,’ informed the chief secretary. He also revealed that the State Government has earmarked Rs 5 crore for Senapati district and Rs 1.5 crore each for Tamenglong and Imphal West district respectively.
‘An expert team, led by CVR Murti, Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, had inspected all the earthquake-affected Government buildings and others in the State, including the Ima Keithel (Mother’s Market) in Imphal, ministers’ block at the Secretariat, Assembly Secretariat and High Court building,’ he added. The expert team declared the Luxmi Market, New Market and the ministers’ block at Manipur Secretariat as unsafe.
