This 2016, the Sikkim Winter Carnival has been rechristened as Red Panda Winter Carnival. The new poster was unveiled by Tourism Minister Ugen T. Gyatso Bhutia, Gangtok MLA Pintso Chopel Lepcha and Mayor Shakti Singh Chaudhary in Gangtok.
A nine-day long affair, it is scheduled to start from January 23 and continue till the end of the month. The main aim of this extravaganza is to promote Sikkim’s tourism, culture, cuisine and organic products. In the inaugural ceremony, 50 people are set to play the popular Nepali hand drum (madal in local language) at M.G Marg.
Stalls displaying various products will also be installed at M.G Marg and the shops at the Kanchendzonga shopping complex will remain open 24×7. People can indulge in cultural programs and ethnic cuisine when they visit the festival.
In today’s day and age, nothing garners attention faster than sharing on Facebook, Twitter and the like. Videos, messages, pictures shared throughout social media with the hashtag #rpwf will be assimilated and displayed on a big digital billboard near Tourism Information Centre, MG Marg, Gangtok.
