Following the shocking revelation made by Herojit Singh, Manipur Police head constable and a gallantry award recipient, regarding the killing of Sanjit Meitei, suspected member of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in a fake encounter, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all ready to reopen the file.
‘The confession is very shocking, thus the agency has decided to reopen the file, if the confessions of the constable were found to be true,’ a CBI official informed the media. Interacting with the national media, Singh confessed that in July 2009, he had killed a 22-year-old Meitei on the suspicion that he was a terrorist, ‘Yes, I shot him and he was not armed,’ said Singh, ‘I felt no remorse, no sympathy after I killed Sanjit. I felt nothing. It was an order and I had to simply carry it out.’ Singh alleged he was told by then Additional SP, and present SP of Imphal West District, Dr Akoijam Jhalajhit, to ‘finish him off’.
Meanwhile, reacting to the confessions of Singh, Meitei’s mother demanded immediate hanging of Singh so that she can avenge the murder of her son.
