The war of words between Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and former Minister and Convenor of Election Management Committee, BJP, Himanta Biswa Sarma continues as the latter today alleged that Gogoi has been misleading the people of Assam. Addressing a press meet, he gave three recent examples where Gogoi’s government has come up with false and misleading information.
‘Even though Supreme Court has refused to give its nod to the state government’s multi-crore welfare schemes for the poor, saying it first needs to lay down norms to identify beneficiaries of the cash disbursed from public funds, Cabinet Minister Rockybul Hussain has said that the media has misquoted the honourable apex court and some third force is behind this. This is really laughable when we possess a copy of the Supreme Court Order which clearly states that no further amounts pursuant to the schemes referred to in para 22 (1) of the order passed by the High Court shall be released in favour of the enlisted beneficiaries except after obtaining the permission of the High Court and the disclosure of the prescribed criteria/norms fixed for determining the eligibility of the beneficiaries’ said Sarma.
He also said that in his budget, Gogoi had said yesterday that the state government received Rs 18,000 crores from the UPA government in the centre in the year 2014-15 when actually it is the NDA government led by Narendra Modi which had come to power by this period. Further exposing Gogoi’s ‘lies’, his once trusted lieutenant said that the Chief Minister has alleged that the state didn’t receive any money for the upcoming SAF Games to be held in Assam and Meghalaya when the Sports Minister Ajit Singh himself admitted that the state has received Rs 96 crores.
Sarma, further said that Gogoi had also lied about the NDA government abolishing the Special State status enjoyed by Assam during the NDA regime. “He himself said during his budget speech at the Assembly yesterday that Assam is receiving money at 90:10 ratios which shows that Assam is still enjoying their Special State status. Otherwise, they would have received their funds at 50:50 ratio like Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.”
Once upon a time, Gogoi’s ‘blue eyed boy’ Sarma also came up with the assessment that the Chief Minister is being misguided by his bureaucrats. “ I have worked with him for so many years. Whatever, I know of him, he is very casual in nature. He doesn’t really go to the depth of government files and tend to believe what his officers tell him. It is very possible that he might have been brainwashed by some bureaucrat that the central government is not giving money to the state” he remarked.
The former Jalukbari MLA gave a cautious reply regarding some AGP leaders meeting the Chief Minister at his residence in Koinadhara when speculations regarding an alliance between AGP-BJP are rife. He said that these kind of news is disturbing but ultimately he will prefer not to comment as it is the internal matter of AGP.
