Political crisis of Arunachal Pradesh took a new turn when 30 of the 47 Congress legislators, including Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, joined People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA), the lone regional party in the frontier state.
The decision to desert Congress and merge with PPA was taken during a meeting of the Pul-led group of Congress legislators.
‘Chief Minister Kalikho Pul and 29 other rebel Congress legislators have defected to the PPA,’ informed Honipa Sono Yangfo, a close-aid of Kalikho Pul, adding, ‘Rebel legislators received the support of 11 BJP legislators and two Independents.’
He disclosed that the swearing-in of the ministers would take place in a couple of days. The BJP, which was giving outside support to the Pul-led Congress government, is likely to join the government.
‘It is no longer a Congress government. So, there is a possibility that we could form a alliance government,’ said BJP state President Tamiyo Taga
He further termed the development as a ‘welcome step’ alleging that the Congress leadership was discriminating against the party MLAs who are close to Chief Minister Pul.
