Maintaining the ‘tradition’ of dynasty politics followed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has fielded a number of relatives of senior or former party leaders for the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Elections. Kins of several veteran leaders are battling it out to enter the Assembly. A list of some of the younger ones:
Angkita Dutta– Daughter of veteran Congress leader and president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Anjan Dutta, Angkita will contest for the first time by replacing her father in Amguri LAC.
Diganta Barman– Son of senior congress leader and state minister Bhumidhar Barman, Diganta will replace his father at Barkhetri.
Rajdeep Goala – After the death of veteran leader Dinesh Prasad Goala, Congress had given the ticket to his son Rajdeep Gowala. Rajdeep is sitting MLA of Lakhipur constituency who won the by-election in 2014.
Rahul Roy – It is a known fact that Hailakandi district is in the grip of Minister Gautam Roy. Thus this time, the APCC has fielded his son Rahul Roy from Algapur constituency replacing his wife Mandira Roy.
Gautam Dhanowar – Son of Digboi legislator Rameswar Dhanowar, Gautam will replace his father in Digboi.
It is to be mentioned here that, few years back, the party had inducted Gaurav Gogoi—son of Tarun Gogoi and Manas Bora- son of Akon Bora.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday grassroots workers of the party burnt the effigy of state Congress party chief opposing dynasty politics.
