In a bid to boost the tourism of Northeast India, union Tourism Ministry has sanctioned five projects for four Northeastern states—Assam, Tripura, Sikkim and Nagaland. This was recently informed in Rajya Sabha.
Union Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma in a written reply informed that in 2015-16, the maximum amount of Rs 129.65 crore was sanctioned for two projects in Assam.
One project in Tripura and Sikkim got approval for Rs 99.59 crore and Rs 98.05 crore respectively.
However, no project was approved for Meghalaya.
To another query, Sharma said Rs 197 crore was approved for ‘Tribal circuits’ in Nagaland. It is to be mentioned here that, Eco and Tribal circuits are part of 13 theme based tourist circuits which are identified for development across the country under ‘Swadesh Darshan’ scheme.
