Home Affairs Ministry is planning to showcase Northeast success stories on national television. A 13 episode show, it will showcase individual success stories of the people from the Northeast, namely the all-girls band Hurricane Girls, family planning campaigner Dr Ilyas Ali, gymnast Dipa Karmakar and more. They are also planning episodes on boxers Shiva Thapa and Mary Kom. The aim of the show is to change how people living in other parts of the country perceive Northeast India.
The show is supposed to be on air later this month and if successful, it will be extended up to 26 or even 52 episodes. They are also looking at possibilities of airing it on private channels. One of the most anticipated episodes will be the one on Dipa Karmakar who is the first woman gymnast to seal an Olympic berth. Through the show, they will also be showing how these individuals are inspiring lives across the region.
