One day after a 23 year-old man got killed in the bullet of security forces in Raha of Nagaon district amidst mass protest demanding setting up of AIIMS in the area, raged protesters gheroaed two ministers of Assam Government who were going to take an account of the violent situation. Protesters gheraoed Chandra Mohan Patowary and Keshab Mahanta for an hour demanding justice to the family of the victim.
The Ministers while assuring that Assam Government would soon ask the centre to review its decision which has decided the setting up the medical institute in Sangsari area of Lower Assam.
Talking to the angry mob, Assam Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said, ‘I urge everyone to maintain peace in the area. The State government cannot decide on central issues. It can only ask the centre to review the decision. That we are going to do soon. Our Chief Minister also very worried about what happened yesterday. Though he is in Delhi, he is in constant touch with us, the local MLA here. Please maintain peace.’
Both the Ministers also visited the family of Mintu Deory , who was a resident of Devaguri Thupula Village in Raha. The Ministers have assured that Mintu Deory’s wife would be provided a government job within seven days of the incident.
‘We are informed that Mintu Deory’s wife is eighth standard pass. As per her qualification we will provide a job to her within seven days so that the family does not suffer from financial crisis. I have already asked the local MLA to draft her application and send it to the authorities concerned.’
The government has also declared a financial assistance of Rs. 5 lacs to the family. Mintu Deory has left a three months pregnant wife and a brother who is physically challenged.
On the other hand, a 10-hour long bandh has been declared by the civil organizations in Raha on Saturday. The protesters have also criticized Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma who had assured to interact with the protesters on instruction of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal a week back but never turned up.
