Borkung Hrangkhawl aka BK has been slowly and steadily climbing the ladder of success over the past few years. This freestyle rapper and singer-songwriter from Kamlacherra, Tripura, is one of the few rap artists from the Northeast who have made a mark in the national music circuit. He rhymes like nobody’s business and dares to explore with regards to music styles and elements. His songs are thoughtful, and if you really listen, you will come to love and relate to the poetry that is BK’s lyrics.
Your songs are usually very inspirational, any special reason for that?
I believe in telling a story and educating the masses. For me, music is a medium and I want to bring a change through music.
Your video ‘Never Give Up’ was exceptional, what can fans expect from your upcoming single ‘Fighter’?
Never Give Up took us six months to finish. It was a hectic schedule but fun at the same time. I enjoyed every moment of it. For Fighter, I wanted something different again. It is going to be classy, that’s all I will say for now.
Many believe that musicians are always high on something but you have stayed away from drugs and alcohol all throughout your career, any message you want to give to the youth of the Northeast which will help them stay away from addiction?
Alcohol and drugs is something that I stay away from. In fact ,any kind of addiction is not good. I am telling you, it is not worth it guys. Life is beautiful and you should live it for the glory of God
Who is your favourite actress?
I don’t have any favourites (laughs).
How much did you earn for your first performance?
For my first performance, I was paid Rs 10,000. I was in a band those days. The band’s name was Drop Squad. The whole band had to divide the money.
What is the most expensive thing you have ever bought?
The most expensive things that I buy are shoes and jackets.
