Assam’s very own designer Sanjukta Dutta has been selected to present her collection at the pre-finale of Lakme Fashion Week. The show is scheduled for August 28. She has previously showcased her collections at Mysore Fashion Week, the Indian Beach Fashion Week and more.
‘I have got the confirmation recently to join the Lakme Fashion Week. I am going to join on the grand finale day, on the pre-finale show. I am very happy right now. It was my dream to showcase mekhela chador on a national platform. This time I am going to be showcasing in India’s number one fashion extravaganza, and that too in the grand finale day.’
Her journey with design started in 2012, after she left her job at PWD, Assam. After a lot of struggles and challenges, she now has 13 factories where she produces silk mekhela chadors. Not only that, she also makes customized traditional Assamese jewellery for her clients.
Her design studio, Sanjukta’s Studio opened in 2014, where you can get all her designer mekhela chadors. She is also working towards reviving the traditional muga silk mekhela chador.
Lakme Fashion Week
It is one of the premier fashion events in India. It takes place twice a year, one is the summer-resort and the other is the winter-festive.
In our exclusive interview with the designer, we get to know more about her collection and her expectations –
What inspired your collection?
The collection was inspired by just Assam, the natural beauty, the traditions and the motifs of the state.
What are your expectations?
Right now, I won’t be able to tell anything about LFW, because I haven’t joined yet. But all I can say is that If someone wishes to do something, they can do it. I can just say, Run after perfection, don’t run after success. When you find perfection, success will follow
Are you nervous?
Definitely, because for the first time I am going to showcase Assam’s mekhela chador at LFW. But I have done my best.
