To boost the tourism prospects of the State, Assam will be offering single window clearance for film shoots. This was informed by Assam Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Films can play a major role in attracting tourists and so the government can be seen wooing filmmakers.
Sarma’s invitation for film shoots
Sarma has said that aggressive publicity will be done so that film producers are eager to shoot in different parts of Assam. He made this announcement while launching the new logo of Assam Tourism with the punchline ‘Awesome Assam’. It is to be seen now whether filmmakers grab this invitation and come forward to shoot their films in Assam.
Assam off the radar of Bollywood
Of late, there have been some movies which have been shot in Northeast India. Farhan Akhtar’s much anticipated Rock On 2 has been shot in Meghalaya. This film will release this November. Also, Vishal Bhardwaj has shot his upcoming film Rangoon in Arunachal Pradesh. The film which stars Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut will release next February. However, no such project has been announced in Assam so far.
In the past, movies like Dil Se, Ek Pal and Daman have been shot in Assam. So, we can hope that with this announcement from the government, more movies will be shot in Assam in the future.
