‘Bihar ki haar, Assam ki jeet’ is the working model on which BJP is carving out its campaign strategy for Uttar Pradesh election. A top party source said that the mood within the BJP is to take this Assam model forward. There are some lessons which they have learnt in Assam and will like to implement in Uttar Pradesh as well.
Lessons from Assam Model
A key BJP leader on conditions of anonymity said, ‘ We have learnt some important lessons from our victory in Assam. One is don’t turn the election into a referendum for the Central government. This is a strategy which worked in Assam. The key observation here is to have more focused and controlled publicity campaigns. These campaigns should highlight the poor performance of the incumbent government. Then, except for the Prime Minister’s rallies, the party should not over invest its campaign on rallies and roadshows.’
Other suggestions include making special effort for those candidates who have defected from other parties. Interference of ministers and leaders should also be limited in block and village level. Also, emphasis has been put on low key but effective co-ordination with RSS.
