Assam’s love for football, which was lost after the nineties, is coming back around. After Northeast United FC getting full support from the fans in the Indian Super League, the Bordoloi Trophy also underwent a drastic change this year with bigger prize money to attract bigger teams and fans alike bringing back the football fever.
Utilizing the opportunity, filmmaker Chandra Mudoi from Assam is all set to begin shooting his new film which will feature football in the plot-line. In a first such attempt in Assamese film industry, the director intends to shoot portions of his film during the ongoing Bordoloi Trophy.
Mudoi said ‘The film will be based on football and we will shoot in rural areas across the State. I want to portray how rural talents don’t get proper facility and training and as a result fade away at an early stage.’
The shooting will be held during the course of the Bordoloi Trophy at Nehru Stadium. ‘It’s an opportunity for me to shoot the tournament. I’m quite hopeful of getting some good visuals. Besides, I will also shoot during the Independence Day Cup in Nagaon,’ he added.
Football Players To Be Featured
Mudoi, who has made some popular Assamese films during the past decade, will feature several known footballers in his film.
Ex- Northeast United FC striker and present Guwahati City FC striker, Durga Boro will be featured in the yet to be named film. Another young footballer from the State Alen Deory who plays for Shillong Lajong will also be featured.
The film will showcase the hardships faced by the footballers from the State as they struggle to make their presence felt coming from very humble beginnings. The film is set to hit the theatres in the mid of 2017.
