In total, nine schools from Sikkim namely PNG senior secondary school, Sir TNSS school and Tashi Namgyal Academy of Gangtok, Namchi Girls SS school, Namchi SS school, Temi SS school, Geyzing Girls SS and Sombaria SS have been shortlisted for Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) under the Atal Innovation Mission. They would now be competing for the final selection round.
The shortlisted schools will need to make a presentation on why they need a tinkering lab. In addition to that, the shortlisted schools will participate in an innovation contest.

Atal Tinkering Labs will be established in many schools around the country to help create an innovation ecosystem. The aim is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds. Basically, ATL is a work space where young minds can give shape to their ideas through hands on do-it-yourself mode; and learn innovation skills.
Atal Innovation Mission will provide grant-in-aid that comprises Rs 10 lakh which is one-time establishment cost and another Rs 10 lakh as operational expenses for a maximum period of 5 years to each ATL.
