Renowned filmmaker Reema Kagti will be collaborating with superstar Akshay Kumar for her next venture titled ‘Gold’. ‘Gold’ will be the third directorial venture of Kagti, who hails from Assam. The first look of ‘Gold’, which will release on Independence Day, 2018 was recently tweeted by Kumar. Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, ‘Gold’ is the story of India’s first Olympic gold win as a free nation.
The Indian hockey team, led by Kishan Lal, won the Gold Medal for the fourth consecutive time at the 1948 London Olympics. This was the first time India won an Olympic medal as a free nation.
Akshay Kumar is known for releasing his movies on Independence Day. ‘Rustom’ released in the Independence Day week this year. The actor’s next film with Neeraj Pandey, ‘Crack’, is releasing on Independence Day next year.
Reema Kagti’s career in a nutshell
‘Gold’ will be Reema Kagti’s third directorial venture. Her first film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007), made under the Excel Entertainment banner, received mixed reviews and got moderate success at the box office. Her next, Talaash (2012) starring Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Nawazuddin Siddique got good reviews and did average business.
Kagti has also co-written the screenplay of story of movies like ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and ‘Dil Dhadakne Do.’ She was the assistant director in movies like ‘Lagaan’, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’.
