For the first time, a milk producers’ cooperative in Assam, the Karbi Anglong Milk Union Limited (Kamul) will open an ice-cream parlour. The parlour will open at Manja (35 km from Diphu) in Karbi Anglong district. The shop will have sophisticated machinery to ensure that the products remain fresh and protected.
The shop will have three flavours of ice cream – strawberry, mango and vanilla. Other products such as lassi, curd, paneer and ghee will also be available at the shop. The district Dairy Development Department has lent its support to the milk producers’ cooperative to set up the shop.
Kamul has a manufacturing plant at Manja where these items are processed and packaged. They plan to cater to demand for such products from the major towns of the hill district by 2017. Initially 12.5kg of ice cream would be stored in the parlour along with other milk and milk-based products. The Assam Government has provided Rs 20 lakh for the construction of the shop.
