Brainchild of Akitoli Suu, The Angry Mother Soap Co was inspired by her mother. She wanted to depict the humorous side of anger. The brand is dedicated to all the angry mothers out there who bring inspiration to their children, hence the unusual name. They have an outlet in Dimapur at Thilixu Village.
Akitoli shares, ‘I first became interested in making soaps during the time I was dabbling in permaculture (the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient) almost 4 years ago. I wanted to make not only skin-friendly but eco-friendly soaps for the household and be aware not only of what goes into our skin but the drainage system also, including septic tanks. So after doing quite a bit of research I experimented with a few batches and got surprisingly good results and feedback and since there is a dearth of natural soaps in the local market I decided to sell my product. Since my products are eco-friendly, I use handmade recycled paper, which is biodegradable for the soap packaging.’
The brand sells a variety of soaps (around 20 at the moment), face and body oils, solid perfumes, body scrubs and lip balms. All of these products are made using all-natural ingredients without any synthetics and preservatives.
Akitoli says, ‘I also sell a limited range of soaps at my mom’s shop, Swu Weaving and Knitting Coop in Dimapur, which was where I initially started selling. And recently I tied up with Ilandlo.com for online retailing.’
She adds, ‘My customers are my greatest influence because I get feedback about my products and they give me ideas on how I could improve or what I could create next. And each customer has different needs so I get inspired to do more research and play around with different oils. My family have also been a great influence and been supportive with a lot of inspiration throughout my soaping journey.’ Her future plans include incorporating more local ingredients in her products.
