FBB Miss India World 2016 Priyadarshini Chatterjee, recently collaborated with UTSAH for a campaign against Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) in Assam. Being a native of Assam, she understands the socio-cultural dynamics of the State. And as a woman, she can empathize with the suffering of the hundreds of girls who have survived sexual abuse.
Some of her prime responsibilities of working with UTSAH are:
- Spread awareness about issues of CSA in marginalized communities
- To help in influencing stakeholders like the police and judiciary to respond progressively towards cases of CSA to ensure justice
- Protection of the human rights of survivors
In the past months, she has been working closely with UTSAH and has reached out to more than 500 children from the slum areas of Guwahati. She has also conducted several community level awareness campaigns against Child Sexual Abuse (CSA).
On November 10, she visited the slum area of Hafiznagar No 2 to conduct another session on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) with more than 100 children. This is her last session before she goes to the US to represent India in the Miss World Beauty Pageant.
Priyadarshini said, ‘These issues are considered taboo in our society. But to stop this great evil, these issues need to be talked about. And not just behind closed doors. We should work together to abolish such evils.’
