Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh recently flagged of World War II Vintage Jeep Rally from Koirengei Old Air Field. The rally was organised as part of the Manipur Sangai Festival festivities.
The event was organised by the Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation and Manipur Tourism Forum and the Department of Tourism. The main objective to organise this event was to spread the message of peace and reconciliation and evils of war. The rally will culminate at the Imdia Peace Memorial at Maibam Lopta Ching.
Former MLA of Heingang N Biren Singh, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, Special Secretary (Tourism), N Ashok Kumar, President Manipur Tourism Forum and Director, IPR Meghachandra Kongbam also graced the occasion.
The participants added a dash of uniqueness by turning up in uniforms of Japanese and Allied Forces. Moreover, they also carried flags of India, UK and Japan. But the centre of attraction was the vintage vehicles. Nine vintage jeeps, around 30 to 35 motorcycles and cycles took part in this rally.
