The second edition of Srimanta Sankaradeva International Festival 2017 is being hosted from January 5-10. It is being organized by The Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society and aims to highlight the contributions of the saint in national and international spheres.
A group of around 11 Danish and French artistes from Europe will take part in the festival. An international seminar on the subject ‘Srimanta Sankaradeva: Synthesizer of spirituality, economics and culture’ will also take place. Scholars from the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, would take part in the seminar.
The sub-themes of the seminar are – Sankaradeva: A spiritual revolutionary, Sankaradeva: Emancipator of the common masses, Sankaradeva: A cultural protagonist, Sankaradeva: His economic sense for social uplift, and Sankaradeva: His multidimensionality.
Last year, Srimanta Sankaradeva’s Parijat Haran Naat was enacted in French language by artistes from Central Europe. ‘Continuing the same trend, the main attraction of this year’s event would be the performance of Ram Bijoy, another play composed by the saint, in Danish language by the artistes from Europe. Apart from the play, there would be other programmes and activities like fair, exhibition and performances of music and dances related to the saint.’
