HR professional by daytime and fashionista by night, Debahuty Bora thought about starting her own fashion label Piply ‘after a few glasses of wine and a little push from friends who believed that the world needed a resolution.’
She always felt that fashion was divided into isles and sections. ‘Casual on one side, designer on the other. Simple on one side, grand on the other.’ This made her question why there wasn’t a label that blended the many different elements that women look for in their outfits. ‘Why can’t casual be crisp? Why can’t simple be ostentatious and grand? Why can’t flowy dresses be the best fit a woman could ask for? Why can’t the play of opposites come together to form a collection that are comfortable but incredibly crisp and chic.’
Initially she didn’t think about designing a full collection, ‘I was being selfish at first and wanted to make few pieces just for myself’, but the more she discussed it with her husband and friends, she became convinced that there were many other women like her who were looking for the same answers. This led her to think about starting her label so that more women can have access to clothes that were simple yet stylish, and comfortable yet chic.
Aarombhonee, her first collection was launched recently on the official FB page. The designs feature a lot of ikats and block print. She has also used Indonesian ikat for one of her creation.
Clients can place orders through their Facebook and Instagram page. By March, they are planning to launch the official website. They also plan to connect with a few local stores in Mumbai in the near future.
