In today’s day and age when wastage in on the rise, craftsmen in the Burma camp area of Dimapur town are leading the way by showing people how recycling can turn something useless into something useful and functional. They are recycling old tyres which is not only contributing to a greener environment but it is also helping to provide employment for those in need.
Now, if you were to think, that it is easy to do what they do then you would be wrong because it is not only backbreaking work and it also involves a lot of risk. However inspite of the challenges, the hardworking and dedicated Naga craftsmen are ensuing that old types do not end up as waste somewhere in a garbage dump but instead can be of use to the people of the society.
By recycling old types, they made useful household items like buckets, flower pots and cauldrons. The buckets costs somewhere around Rs 100-200 and cauldrons come for around Rs 150-600, depending on the size.
Next time, you are in Dimapur, make sure to pick up some recycled items to encourage the talented and hard-working local craftsmen but also to contribute to a greener planet.
