Profession | Model, Actor
Bio | Born in Imphal, Lin Laishram rose to fame after appearing in the movie Mary Kom wherein superstar Priyanka Chopra played the role of Magnificent Mary. But that was not the first time that Lin shared the frame with a big Bollywood star, she had also had cameos in big star-studded films like Om Shanti Om, Chalo China, Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola and more. Recently she was in the headlines for landing a pivotal role in the recently released Rangoon.
How was the experience of working in Rangoon?
It was very exciting and thrilling. It was a very challenging role as well. The character that I play is a Manipuri widowed army nurse and she plays a pivotal role in the storytelling. And so, it was not a very easy character to play.
Do you think that we will get to see more Northeastern faces in mainstream Bollywood films in 2017?
I hope so. Last year, we saw Andrea Tariang do a tremendous job in Pink. I think with time, things are going to change for the better for actors from the Northeast. Like in the case of Rangoon, a lot of directors are going to see the film because it is Vishal Bharadwaj’s biggest film so far. It has a superb star cast that boasts of Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, and Saif Ali Khan. Many people, here in the region and outside, got to see what I am doing, what I am capable of. That way, slowly and steadily, filmmakers will realize that actors from the Northeast can portray a lot of characters irrespective of how we look and our facial features. I think films like Rangoon and Pink will bring a positive change in people’s mindset about actors coming out of the region.
Name one filmmaker you would love to work with
There are many. I would love to work with Anurag Kashyap, and Vishal Bharadwaj because he is an excellent filmmaker. My experience with him has been amazing, so I would love to work with him again in the future.
What is the most expensive thing that you have ever bought?
That’s a nice question. Recently, I bought a beautiful diamond ring for myself. It’s funny because all my friends laugh at me because I am not supposed to be buying diamonds. I loved it so I bought it.
What is the best thing anyone has ever said about your work?
That I am really simple and I don’t have any airs. I feel really humble when people come up to me and say ‘you are approachable’. When they come and hang out, they see the real me. When a random person comes out and says that, it makes me very happy.
Name three items in your wardrobe that you could never part with
I have this really old t-shirt which I bought in New York. It has a cartoon of a cat on it and I just can’t throw it away. I have a collection of old t-shirts that I don’t like to throw away. Then I have this white tone jeans, it’s faded but I can’t throw it because I really like it. I also have this handkerchief that my sister gave me from Japan that I really cherish. Those three things I will always cherish, I take with me wherever I go in the world.
