The Politics of Hate
Speaking to the media, WUM vice president Laishram Joyprakash said that it is very questionable that the militant group which is under the SoO was trying to rescue the abducted workers. So the government needs to conduct a strict vigil and deal over the matter with proper attention, he added. He asked ‘how only two Meiteis were killed when the cross fire was between the Kuki militant groups. The incidence tells that there is no governance in the state’. There is a lack of response from the civil society organisations and students’ organisation of the state when a labour is kidnapped or killed, he added. ‘Hill based militants and Kuki militants has been so far involved in cases of kidnapping labourers for ransom from contractors. Kidnapping for ransom is a frequent occurring in the state so the state government should open a separate police department to deal with kidnapping only’, he added.
KEDO vice president Kh Devajit said that the innocent labourers working in the hill areas of the state has always been a victim of extortion by the militant organisations. He added that the militant organisations should stop this kind of unwanted action immediately.
