Music legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika is one of the most well-known cultural icons of Assam. His songs focus on themes of humanity and universal brotherhood. He was awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his contribution to films. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, in 2012.
Now, the Assam Government is planning to convert his Kolkata residence into a memorial. The house is located in the Tollygunge area of south Kolkata. The news to covert his residence into a memorial was shared recently by Chief Minister Sarbnanda Sonowal.
The Director of the Assam Bhawan in Kolkata has been instructed to take up the matter with the current owner of the house and obtain ownership of the property.
